Step inside Celeste's studio, with her development illustrations for the 2015 International Woolmark Prize awards. As part of the prize, nominee's were asked to create a six look collection, focusing on using Australian Merino wool in new and innovative ways.
Naming her collection looks her "tribe of Woolmark warriors", Tesoriero gave each one of her looks a personality within the range. For example in illustration No.1 below, the look that includes a matching grey kimono and wrap skirt is presented as the groups leader;
"The matching kimono suit, embodies all of the elements I have woven into this collection. I have mixed military detailing, with hand woven sleeves (using organic plant-based dyed yarn) with my love for Japanese shapes. The structured wrap skirt is used instead of regular trousers to bring forward the tribal inspiration throughout the collection. This guy is the boss." - Celeste
Creating a community was something Celeste wanted to embody holistically in the process. As well as making the six looks a tribe of their own, Celeste chose to invite three other artisans to collaborate with her on this collection - each being leaders in their respective fields. (see detailed information on the collaborators here)
"I am inspired by the current state of the earth and humanity, and wanted to weave my feelings around that with Merino Wool. My collection has an undertone of protest and attitude, which is juxtaposed with the presentation of beautiful garments. I represented the break down of the current fast-fashion industry with raw edges, unravelling threads, and deconstructed elements, mixed back with the sharp lines of Japanese silhouettes."
